On January 24, Bill McKibben addressed a packed barn about the interrelated threats of authoritarianism and backsliding climate action. But his talk was far from all doom and gloom. McKibben sees great hope in the rapid worldwide adoption of solar and wind energy both for tamping down the temperature of our planet and our geopolitical climate. “It’s hard to fight a war over the sun,” he reminded us.
He encouraged the older generations present in the room to take a decisive and active role in the climate fight through organizations like Third Act Washington and to work closely with and support the actions of young generations.
