On Monday, March 11th eleven youth from the Methow Valley traveled to Olympia to urge their state representatives to take action to solve the climate crisis.

The lobby day was organized by MVCC Intern, Sally Thornton-White, as part of her senior project. Sally told her state representatives that “All of us have been personally impacted by the effects of climate change, having been evacuated by large wildfires, and some of us have even lost our homes. Solving the climate crisis is incredibly important to our community and our generation.”

The young delegation of climate activists met with Representatives Mike Steele and Rep. Keith Goehner and Senator Brad Hawkins. They articulated their support for five pieces of climate legislation that they believed will help Washington State transition to 100% clean energy, decrease greenhouse gas emissions and reduce our dependence upon single-use plastics.

Leo Shaw, Liberty Bell High School senior and youth climate lobby delegation member, said “When you’re at the Capitol, you realize that you are an important part of the legislative process and that your voice matters.”
