To rekindle our hope as a community and give us inspiration and energy to bring into 2022 , this winter we’ll be reading and discussing the book Active Hope: How to Face the Mess We’re in without Going Crazy. In the book philosopher Joanna Macy and physician Chris Johnstone distinguish between passive and active hope. Passive hope “waits for external agencies to bring about what we desire.” Active hope “is about becoming active participants in bringing about what we hope for. Active hope is a practice like tai chi or gardening, it is something we do rather than have.”
More details about reading groups and discussion questions will be shared with participants in October. If you are eager to start, we encourage you to begin reading!
