Columbiana will host four screenings of Return of the River, the critically-acclaimed documentary that follows the removal of the Elwha Dam and recovery of the Elwha River.
Return of the River follows a group of strong-minded, committed people as they attempt the impossible: to change the public opinion of a town and eventually the nation to bring a dam down. The community comes to a consensus, setting the Elwha River free and showing the way to a more sustainable future. Amid grim environmental news, Return of the River is a film infused with hope.
Each screening will be followed by facilitated panel discussion about the Enloe Dam on the Similkameen River and how the removal of the dam would benefit the river and the greater Okanogan County community. Light refreshments, tea and coffee will be provided at each screening. Donations to Columbiana are welcome.
As ratepayers of Okanogan Public Utility District and/or citizens of Okanogan County, we can all assist the Okanogan PUD, federal and state agencies, and the county in taking responsibility for the restoration of the Similkameen River.
