Showing leadership on Carbon Tax legislation

It’s time to weigh in on a very important piece of legislation in Olympia.

Senate Bill 6203 “Reducing carbon pollution by investing in rural economic development and a clean energy economy” is moving through the legislative process.

Climate impacts are already being felt here in the Methow and across Washington. We have the opportunity to demonstrate national leadership on an issue of critical importance to our Valley, our state, our nation and the planet.

Many of you may have received a survey from our State Senator, Brad Hawkins, asking for input on this legislation ().

We encourage you to contact Senator Hawkins now. Ask him to continue working to move this legislation forward through the vehicle of this Senate bill.  Below is a list of the key elements we are seeking in a final bill.

Meaningful carbon-pricing policy for Washington must:
• Reduce carbon pollution
• Address the needs of impacted communities
• Invest in clean air and water, healthy forests, and the communities and workers who make our natural resource economy vibrant
• Invest in our state’s growing clean energy economy
• Make these investments in a way that keeps our state’s economy and workers strong
• Provide protection for workers and energy-intensive, trade exposed businesses, ensuring that we do not transfer jobs and emissions to other states

And don’t forget to fill out Senator Hawkins’ survey!
