Protect Our Fire Escape Routes!

On July 1 the Okanogan Open Roads Coalition (OORC) filed a motion in Okanogan Superior Court asking the court to dismiss the French Creek Road case.

Findings by OORC, recently shared in the Methow Valley News, show that the road connecting Texas and French Creek has been a public road for over 120 years. Maintaining our rural public road network is critical to ensuring the safety of both civilians and EMS workers during natural disaster events such as wildfires. These roads also access thousands of acres of our public lands.

While OORC’s discovery is a potential win for the community, court cases can take months (if not years) to play out. Meanwhile, it is imperative to the safety of families living on French and Texas Creek Roads that their fire escape routes are not blocked by gates during fire season.

Take Action: Contact your elected County Commissioners and urge them to request a court injunction to open the gates on these rural public roads during fire season while the case plays out.

Let’s keep our community safe during wildfire season by keeping our public roads open!
