The Methow Watershed Council will be hosting a free film screening and discussion regarding instream flows on Tuesday, January 21st from 7-9 pm at the River Bank Building in Twisp.

But what are instream flows? Instream flows are simply the water flowing in a stream channel, the methodology to set the standards for how much water should be left in a stream, however, is quite complex.

The Washington Department of Ecology uses the following factors to help develop instream flow regulations.

-Scientific flow studies to determine what flow levels are needed to preserve the uses and values of individual rivers and streams.

-Developing methods to allow for future development.

-Working with local agencies, tribes, businesses, environmental groups, and concerned citizens throughout the rule development and adoption process. Instream flow regulations ensure that there is enough water for fish, plants and humans.
