This August and September, MVCC is partnering with the Confluence Gallery in Twisp to bring you an art exhibit and speaker series, CASCADIA: Flora, Fauna & Terra of the North Cascades. The exhibit will feature painters, sculptors and jewelry artists portraying the wildlife of the Cascadia bioregion. A portion of the profits from this show will be donated to MVCC to support our work protecting wildlife and wildlife habitat along the east slope of the Cascades. The exhibit will run from August 11 to September 26.
Wildlife Speaker Series
To deepen our knowledge and appreciation of the wildlife species native to our area, MVCC will be hosting a speaker series. Starting September 9th, these speaker events are moving to Zoom. You can register for each of the Zoom talks below.
August 26: Riding the Range for Wolves: Stories from the Field
Daniel Curry, Range Rider
Can wolves and cows and humans coexist? Daniel Curry has spent the last decade riding the range to protect cows and wolves and finding himself smack dab in the middle of Washington’s culture wars. How does he talk to both sides? What solutions has he gleaned? Come hear Daniel’s stories of living and working at the nexus between predator and prey.

September 2: Understanding Bird Song: What Birds are Saying in their Vocalizations
David Lukas, Naturalist
Bird songs and vocalizations are beautiful and enchanting but how do we understand what they’re saying? In this talk David Lukas will introduce us to some of the ways birds make and use their songs, and how we study bird songs.
September 9: Fascinating Fisher: Reintroducing a Northwest Native
Dave Werntz, Conservation Northwest
In 2018, fishers were reintroduced to the North Cascades after a close to a 90 year absence. Dave Werntz will teach us about the fisher’s importance on the landscape, the long road to reintroduction and where the species is headed from here.

September 23: Grizzly Grub: Bear Habitat in the North Cascades
Dr. Bill Gaines, Washington Conservation Science Institute
The North Cascades hosts a rich diversity of plant life–a mixture of berries, roots and shrubs–that are prime food for grizzly bears. In this talk by Dr. Bill Gaines, learn about some of the characteristics that make the North Cascades a productive habitat to support a grizzly bear population.
