A Climate Action Plan for the Methow!

We are thrilled to announce the release of the Methow Valley Climate Action Plan! The Climate Action Plan for the Methow Valley is a vision and road map for our community to prepare for the impacts of climate change, and to reduce local sources of greenhouse gas emissions. It is the result of two years of work and is based on input and involvement from hundreds of community members.

The Plan reminds us where we are and what our greatest sources of human-generated emissions are (transportation!) before laying out a vision of where we want to go. It details goals as well as strategies and actions to achieve those goals. We view the launching of this plan as the beginning of a transition from where we are now, to a more resilient, carbon-neutral future with equity for all.

We encourage you to begin by reading the 4-page Executive Summary of the Plan. The full-length plan will be available on September 23 at the Climate Action Celebration and on the Resilient Methow website. Printed copies will be also be available for checkout at several locations throughout the valley, including local libraries and Methow Valley Citizens Council. You may order your own copy, by contacting Riverside Printing.

Goals for a Resilient Methow from the Climate Action Plan:
1. Water to sustain nature and people
2. Resilient, Healthy and abundant natural systems
3. A community prepared and safe in the event of adversity
4. A low-carbon, efficient, livable and resilient/affordable built environment
5. A thriving, place-based economy with equity for all
6. A vibrant future for agriculture.
7. A carbon-neutral Methow Valley

Now comes the action!
Many of strategies of the plan are already being implemented by local organizations. Learn more by visiting some of the tables at the Climate Action Celebration. If you’d like to become actively involved in the plan we we encourage you to take this brief survey on Resilient Methow’s website so they can match your interests, skills, and expertise up with climate actions.
