At MVCC, we believe that environmental justice is inseparable from racial, social, and economic justice. Systemic racism and historical oppression have forced Indigenous communities, communities of color, and economically disadvantaged neighborhoods to bear the heaviest burdens of the worsening climate crisis, subjecting the most vulnerable among us to more powerful storms and floods, intense heat waves, deadly wildfires, devastating droughts, and toxic pollution. Healing these systemic harms requires shifting power back to the people.
All people have the right to breathe clean air, live free of dangerous levels of pollution, access healthy food, and share the benefits of a prosperous and vibrant clean economy. As an environmental watchdog, MVCC strives to hold institutions, agencies, and systems accountable, while supporting coalitions that unite diverse voices across our entire community to build equitable climate solutions that create lasting, systemic change.
