The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced the date for their public meeting regarding the proposal to approve a mineral withdrawal for the Methow Headwaters region. A mineral withdrawal would make the 340,000 acres of U.S. Forest Service land in the Upper Methow Valley off-limits to large-scale mining for the next 20 years. The Methow Headwaters Campaign has worked hard to secure this protection and needs your voice of support at this meeting! The meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 13th at 6pm at the Winthrop Barn. If you are unable to make the meeting we encourage you to submit a comment before 11/13.
The Methow Headwaters Campaign will be holding a fun activist happy hour from 5-6pm at the Old Schoolhouse Brewery in Winthrop prior to the BLM Event. Join the Methow Headwaters team and other supporters to learn more about how to submit an influential public comment and be a part of protecting this treasured landscape from industrial-scale mining. Old Schoolhouse Brewery is donating $1 of every beer sold during happy hour to help campaign efforts and appetizers are on us!
We have three great volunteer opportunities for folks wanting to help with the Methow Headwaters Campaign!
1.) Help us gather support for the BLM public hearing on 11/13 by calling potential event attendees! We will be holding three phone banking events for the Methow Headwaters Campaign at the MVCC office in Twisp on 11/7, 11/8 and 11/12!
No experience necessary! All you need is a cell phone and we will provide every thing else! This is a fun and easy way to help protect the Methow!
2.) Put up posters around the Methow Valley! Help us advertise the BLM event by hanging posters around Twisp and Carlton! Posters can be picked up from the Methow Valley Citizens Council Office, 313 E Hwy 20, Twisp. We will provide a list of locations to hang the posters.
3.) Assist with Methow Headwaters Campaign table at the Winthrop Barn on 11/13. We need one to two skilled volunteers to help us manage the MHC table at the 11/13 event. This volunteer will need to be available from 5:30-7pm and be able to stand outside in potentially chilly weather. We will provide warm drinks and plenty of snacks.
Get Involved! Tons of great volunteer opportunities the next few weeks!
