Forest Monitoring Volunteers Needed

Position Title: Forest Restoration Citizen Scientist Volunteer 

Purpose: Be part of a team of citizen scientists who will collect pre- and post-data monitoring tree thinning prescriptions in designated units of the Twisp and Midnight Restoration Projects. 

Location: Various locations within the Twisp River drainage in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. 

Responsibilities and Duties:  Perform field work in forested terrain including data collection, documentation, and carrying equipment (minimal, < 10lbs). Field days will occur pre and post treatment. 

Qualifications: Field experience and knowledge of local vegetation is preferred but not required, has reliable transportation to the field site and/or MVCC office(carpooling will be used as much as possible), high attention to detail and protocols, excellent communication skills, ability to coordinate with a team. 

Time commitment: Data collection will take place over approximately three field days (6-8hrs each day). Field days will occur both pre- and post- treatment.  Field days will be scheduled starting in the fall of 2024 on the Twisp Project.

Training Opportunities: Volunteers will have the opportunity to receive training from seasoned professional foresters and get hands-on experience participating in forest restoration.
